Rewana Paraoa

On Monday morning Room 3 came to Room 1 to check out our new classroom and to help us make some Rewana Paraoa (Maori bread) for our Matariki celebration. Bella and Sofia's mum is a bit of an expert so she came to show us how it is done!

First we put five cups of flour in a big bowl.
Then we added salt and baking soda.
Next we made a special hole in the flour called a well.
Then we added a special mixture called a bug. It smelt really bad!
Next we mixed all of our ingredients together with a big spoon. The spoon didn't do a very good job we decided to use our hands instead!

Finally some of us got a turn to knead the dough on the table. We had so much fun!

This is our fantastic final product!
Unfortunately Monday's Matariki celebration was cancelled due to the earthquakes, but we are pleased to inform you that we will now hold our Matariki Community Time next Monday 20th June at 2.15 in the new hall.
We hope to see you there!
