Reading in Room One

This week during reading time some of the people in Room One have been working very hard at finishing their reading activities.

Raziel, Emilie and Sai finished the giant alphabet puzzle all on their own!

Charlotte and Anna worked so hard on the 3 letter word match up game.

Raziel, Emilie and Sai were working so well together on Wednesday that they also finished the Ladybird Alphabet match up game!

Room One is full of amazing readers and super hard workers!

Buddy Time

Last Friday we had our first ever buddy time with our new best friends Room 13 and Miss Sheerin! We had so much fun! Our buddies came to visit us in Room One and we got to do heaps of cool stuff with them. We are so lucky in Room One, because we are such a small class, each of us got at least 2-3 buddies! We had such a great time getting to know our new buddies and we are SO EXCITED that they are coming back again this Friday!

Here are some photos of what we did with our buddies:

WE LOVE ROOM 13!!

And Then There Were 10!

Room One would like to give the biggest warmest welcome to our newest friend Sai!

We have had lots of new visitors in Room One this week. We can't wait for all our new friends to start school!

Scary Scarecrows!!

This week's poem is called Scary Scarecrow. We had a lot of fun decorating our poems this morning.

We spent a lot of time working with scissors. We are getting really good at cutting around the lines now!

We glued pieces of straw to our scarecrow to make him look like he was stuffed. We had a great time colouring, cutting, gluing and helping each other out this morning!

Here is the fantastic final product:

Don't forget to read the poem with your child this weekend if you get a chance. Please remember to return poetry books to the yellow box every Monday.
Have a great weekend!

Rewana Paraoa

On Monday morning Room 3 came to Room 1 to check out our new classroom and to help us make some Rewana Paraoa (Maori bread) for our Matariki celebration. Bella and Sofia's mum is a bit of an expert so she came to show us how it is done!

First we put five cups of flour in a big bowl.
Then we added salt and baking soda.
Next we made a special hole in the flour called a well.
Then we added a special mixture called a bug. It smelt really bad!
Next we mixed all of our ingredients together with a big spoon. The spoon didn't do a very good job we decided to use our hands instead!

Finally some of us got a turn to knead the dough on the table. We had so much fun!

This is our fantastic final product!
Unfortunately Monday's Matariki celebration was cancelled due to the earthquakes, but we are pleased to inform you that we will now hold our Matariki Community Time next Monday 20th June at 2.15 in the new hall.
We hope to see you there!

Marvellous Monkey

This is Room One's Marvellous Monkey:

Every day Room One has a new leader. As a reward for their awesome behaviour the leader gets the special opportunity to take Marvellous Monkey home for the night.

Marvellous Monkey will come home in a pink reading folder. Inside the reading folder you will also find a story writing book that looks like this:

Inside this book there is space for the children to write a story about they have been doing with Monkey. There is also plenty of space for pictures and photos.

Every child in the class will get a turn with Monkey, so be prepared to see him in your home in the next week!

News Sharing in Room 1

We love sharing news with the whole class. We sit in a special circle and only the person holding the yellow ball is allowed to talk.

On Mondays we share news about our weekends.
On Tuesdays we share alphabet news. Children are encouraged to bring things to school that start with the letter of the week and talk to the class about them.
On Wednesday we do whole class sharing. If you have something special you would like to share with the class, Wednesday would be the perfect day to do it!
On Thursday we share with a buddy.

At the beginning of the week some of us were very shy when it came to talking in front of the whole class. But today every single person sat up the front and shared something with the whole class!

Colour Mixing Experiment

On Wednesday went went for a trip to Room 3 to visit our friends. While we were in there we decided to do a paint mixing experiment. We were given 3 blobs of paint on a big piece of paper and 1 straw each. We had to blow through the straw to mix the paint. It was very hard work!

Check out our photos:

This is the fantastic final product. Don't they look amazing?
These will be displayed in the classroom for all to see shortly.
